2.1.10 released

This version lets you right-click to open a context menu on the downloaded company name and yield while editing a portfolio to enter a different value, allowing for better calculation of average yield despite issues with Yahoo's data source.

Cheers!

2.1.9 released

This version should resolve issues with splits, and non-reinvested simulation.

Cheers!

Note: Generally speaking, the latest changes in the data coming from Yahoo provide only the "adjusted close" column, and dates and values of dividends and splits. The missing data is the actual close/open data per day. What the software does now is try and deduct "actual close value" from the values I just mentioned. Unfortunately, you can't make flour from baked bread... The simulation results are fine for "reinvested" dividends option , but not so much for "withdrawn"

New version 2.1.3

It seems the installer was missing a required DLL. Hopefully, all issues solved.

Cheers!

New version 2.1.2

Bug fixed: it is now possible to close the application while trying to download, and download should now properly work.

Cheers!

Bug reported is being worked on, a few notes on "security risk" of downloaded installer

First and foremost: The bug reported is there, and an update will be sent once it is resolved.

While testing the issue being reported I found out that Windows, Chrome and then Norton 360 all work really hard to prevent you from downloading, installing and even running the software. This software is "home brewed", I have no contact with digital signature providers, and as such - these days - everything on your computer is fighting against you to allow it to be installed, run, and access the internet.

The "path" to overcoming all of the warnings for me under Windows 10, chrome and Norton was as follows:

1. Open the ezbacktest.blogspot.com, download the ZIP file.
2. Select "Keep" after downloaded - otherwise chrome will delete it
3. Unzip, running directly through windows might just refuse.
4. Try to run the installer EXE,
5. When/if windows refuses, it has a link that says "more info", click it, and then select "run anyways"
6. At this point, Norton might refuse, and quarantine the installer. Open Norton and select to restore the file.
7. Now the installer should run.
8. Once EzBacktest is installed, Norton's internet security could pop up again, saying it doesn't have a digital signature, once again, you would need to enable it.

That's the status of today's multiple hacks around the world. The desktop has become unfriendly to independent software. You can choose to trust the software and run it.It was produced by me, Sivan Segev, at home, compiled through visual-studio, and installer made through inno-setup. My home computers are always protected by Norton, and I have no desire to hack you. I have a 9 years track record of producing and releasing EzBacktest.

Cheers!

PS. One thing that might help you is to temporarily disable the anti-virus.

EzBacktest is back! Version 2.1.0 available for download

I've had great assistance by the creator of Medved Trader in re-establishing Yahoo Finance data connection. Check out his site, the link is on the right panel of this blog and on new software. Now that it is back, it still relies on Yahoo!Finance data though through different channels. This version has the same disclaimer as previous ones - it relies on Yahoo's generosity in providing this data for free, without breaking the interfaces which allow downloading such data. I had to put a bit of an effort to use the new interface because these days, whatever data is available is a bit broken for some tickers. No guarantees for future support are made.

I will consider in the future establishing means to create subscription based access to the software, and on the other end, these fees would pay for a reliable source. I can't say if it will happen and when, but given the situation we've had in the last month, it is something I should review when I get the chance.

The software currently doesn't require re-activation of features for users who have already donated. Do consider sending donation though, even if in the past you had donated.

Go ahead and download,
Cheers!

EzBacktest to come back soon

It might take a couple of more days, but I believe I have another option for data source coming up.

Great thanks to everyone who emailed with suggestions, and to the commenter who got me in touch with Jerry Medved from Medved Trader, who has now gave me some information which will get me up and running - hopefully soon.

Cheers

Yahoo changed historic quote download interface, is this the end?

I'm sorry to report folks that it seems that as of today, the free interface which was thus far provided by Yahoo has changed, and might not be available any longer.

Thank you to all the users who supported the software in the past. I've always stated it relies on Yahoo!Finance, and will only be available as long as Yahoo continues to provide free service.

If anything changes, I'll update and upload a new version. For now - EzBacktest will cease to be available for future downloads.

All donations since February have been refunded. Please do not send new ones.

All the best.

New EzBacktest Version: 1.13.3

What's new?

* Allow "Particle Swarm Optimization" over Sortino ratio.

The Sortino Ratio was added during last year, the optimization existed for Sharpe ratio, now you can optimize the portfolio allocation to achieve maximum Sortino ratio.

Cheers!
